Job Change in The Portal
Swap classes at the cost of deleted moves—read this before leaving Warrior or Cleric.
Job Change is The Portal’s class respec system. It lets you abandon Warrior, Defender, Enchanter, or Cleric for another archetype, but the game deletes all moves you learned on the old class. No partial refund, no legacy skill bar. Players who treat Job Change like a casual respec in other MMORPGs lose dozens of hours of progress. This guide explains requirements, timing, and safer alternatives.
What Job Change does
When you complete Job Change at the appropriate NPC or hub station:
- Your class switches to the new selection (Warrior STR, Defender VIT, Enchanter INT, Cleric WIS).
- Learned moves from the previous class are removed entirely.
- Gear may partially invalidate if stats no longer align—budget gold from How to make money.
- Race stays the same unless you spend separate Reroll Mirrors (How to get reroll mirrors).
Combat Points from gear, achievements, and codex generally remain, but move-based CP from skills vanishes with deleted moves.
What Job Change does NOT do
- Restore spent gold on old skill books
- Convert move levels into vouchers
- Change race or family (Milk, Meat, Mushroom)
- Reset Combat Points ceiling from equipment
When Job Change makes sense
Good reasons:
- You confirmed a better race-class pairing via Race-class tier list after extensive reading
- Your party permanently needs a Cleric and you volunteered with acceptance of the grind
- Balance patches buff a class you prefer long-term—check Updates hub first
Bad reasons:
- One bad dungeon run
- Streamer hype without reading Class tier list
- Hoping to keep half your Warrior moves on Enchanter
Preparation checklist
- Read target build: Warrior, Defender, Enchanter, or Cleric.
- Stock gold for new gear and skill books.
- Finish achievement CP that does not depend on old moves.
- Screenshot your skill bar if you want reference for rerolling alts.
- Confirm you are not confusing Job Change with race reroll mirrors from Codes Hub.
Class transition overview
| From | To | Warning |
|---|---|---|
| Warrior | Enchanter | STR gear worthless; full move wipe |
| Defender | Cleric | Both support-leaning but different stats |
| Enchanter | Warrior | INT investments sunk |
| Cleric | Defender | Healing moves gone entirely |
Alternatives to Job Change
- Alt character — use Roblox slots; redeem codes once per account only
- Race reroll — fixes racial passives without touching class moves
- Gear pivot — sometimes CP loss is gear, not class
After Job Change
Re-run tutorial skill quests if offered. Rejoin parties with updated role. Update Race-class picker plans for alts instead of repeated Job Changes.
Developer design intent
The Box of Trolls treats class identity as a long-term contract. Move deletion discourages constant respec churn common in faster Roblox action games. When in doubt, finish your current class story arc, bank gold, then Job Change during a content lull—not mid-chapter when skill-dependent bosses gate progress.
Document your keybindings before Job Change if muscle memory matters. Warriors switching to Enchanter must relearn range management; Clerics switching to Defender must relearn aggro timing. Give yourself one session to relearn basics without comparing damage to your old bar.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for The Portal players.
Does Job Change delete moves permanently?
Yes. All learned moves from your previous class are removed. You must relearn skills from scratch on the new class.
Can I Job Change back to my old class?
You can swap again, but moves are deleted each time. Returning to Warrior still wipes Enchanter progress.
Is Job Change free?
Expect gold or quest requirements at the Job Change NPC. Exact costs may patch—see Release v1 notes.
Do codes refund Job Change mistakes?
No. Codes grant Reroll Mirrors for race only. Job Change mistakes require re-grinding moves.
